Staying well mentally and physically takes practice because oftentimes, it is easier to fall back into old and familiar habits when the proverbial mountain seems too high to climb. This is where having a plan of action is necessary to ensure you keep pushing to meet your health and wellness goals even when you feel like giving up.
Create a self-care plan
Goals are much easier to follow when you have thought through the process and have a clear idea of where you want to be and how you aim to get there. There are many tools to use to make this process a little more fun rather than daunting. Whether it’s documenting your progress the old school way through journaling or it’s using technology such as a Trello board to help you track your progress, the key is in choosing something you feel most comfortable with that inspires you to stick with it to the end.
Step one of your self-care plan
Your self-care plan should start with where you are currently and what qualities or habits you wish to improve on the most. For example, it could be making it a point to go to bed earlier because you are skimping on sleep way too often. Or it could be trying to eat healthier because you now face certain health issues. Or maybe you would just like to drop a size or two and become fitter. Whatever the goal, you must be specific about what you want to concentrate on.
Setting your goals
Regarding setting your goals, you want to make sure that these are going to be something you have a high probability of achieving. Hence, why many people choose to follow the S.M.A.R.T rule to create achievable, time-specific, unmeasurable goals rather than aiming unrealistically high or not giving themselves enough of a challenge.
Accountability is also highly recommended
Being accountable also comes highly recommended because it is easy to fall away when you don’t stay true to yourself and those you love, knowing they only want the best for you too. Here it’s more about being vulnerable and aware of your weaknesses so that you can work on these and not let them get the better of you versus concentrating solely on your strengths.
Remembering to always stay positive
Achieving one’s goals is also about paying attention to one’s mind because it is the strength of the mind that helps us succeed even when our bodies feel like giving in. Choosing to stay positive is one of the best things you can do here, as there will be some days when you feel weaker than others.
Keep striving for more
While it’s great to achieve your goals, it’s even better to keep striving for more, even once you’ve accomplished them. For example, you may choose to further your education online by doing a degree in teaching because you want to be a better leader and motivate others to achieve their full potential. Furthermore, pursuing a bachelor of education online makes it easier to work and study while working.
Sticking with your wellness goals is often more of a challenge than creating them. However, this is often where you find your true strength, especially when you can stay the course despite the many obstacles holding you back.
